Here’s a quick tip on swamp coolers: If the summer months are here and you own one, you should make sure the water pump is working properly and soaking the pads. If not, then you’re losing out on cool air flowing through your vents. Also check to make sure the motor belt is not too lose. A lose motor belt can quickly damage your unit (not good!).

In addition, if the water line going from your pipes to your swamp cooler is copper check to make sure it’s not cracked or leaking in any place along the line which can happen if it’s been exposed to the outside elements during the fall and winter months. If you find that it is cracked or leaking in a spot, that will need to be fixed or replaced to ensure your cool air is at full capacity going into your home. Finally, be sure to open windows in your home to about 4-5 inches wide max to allow for proper air flow. This may be needed to one or more room in your house.
